A great book for beginners. Plenty of good sound advice.

Everything you need to know
I think this is a really good, comprehensive chicken book. I kept chickens a few years ago and want to do it again now that I am moving house. This gave me more than enough information. I love the glossary of terms ... it is so useful and really interesting having the reference to symptoms for disease and parasites. This book will definitely stay on my shelf. Thank you. I am very happy.

Chicken Guidebook
This book got me thinking a new way about chickens. If I had a farm I would definitely use this as a book as a guide what I find interesting is how many different breeds of chickens there are.

No pictures, just pages of written information
Not as informative as I would have liked. No pictures. A bit like reading someone’s college project. Ok if you want surface information.

A comprehensive, inspiring guide.
This book is crammed with up-to-date information on how to keep chickens. The author is speaking from a place of solid experience, and has clearly researched all areas to give a complete guide, whether you would like to keep chickens for eggs, meat or purely as pets. His enthusiasm for keeping these birds comes through in the text, which is refreshing in a non-fiction book. Subjects are divided up into easily digestible chapters from choosing which breed would be best for your needs, right through to associated care costs. As a keen gardener, I particularly liked the inclusion of chapter ten, which covers the additional benefits of keeping chickens such as for pest control, tilling veg beds, eating bugs and producing free fertilizer for your plants. I can’t imagine any reader not feeling enthused at the prospect of keeping chickens, as I do, after reading this great book.

informative
As a child I grew up on a smallholding and having moved back to the countryside, I have been pondering about keeping a few chickens for their eggs. This book has been very informative, slightly Americanised, but on the whole very useful. Recommended.
