I have a hardwired traditional 3 way setup with 2 locations, will this work?

Thanks for the question.  You replace the complete setup for that fixture.  To explain further: the D26HD will be installed in the primary location (controlling the fixture).  All other connected locations controlling this same fixture will require a DD00R (wired option) or DAWDC (wireless option) in order to control.  Cannot use existing standarddevices as these devices also have intelligence to keep track of light status.

Does the 2nd generation plug still connect to 5gh?

No, Anywhere Companions are only compatible with Wi-Fi 2nd Gen devices.
