Good but not THAT good

I bought this flashlight for two reasons. The reviews, and the Mag-lite name. Known for their durability and long lasting product, I grew up using this brand and heard many stories (dad's a cop) of this brand of flashlights coming in handy. But sadly this product did not and has bit lived up to it's name and history. The first day I had it the plastic pocket clip broke off. Replaced the pocket clip no problem and it worked like any other normal LED flashlight I could get from a big box store for about 40-50 dollars cheaper. Now it's been 5 months and now I'm regretting paying 80 dollars for this flashlight. The pocket clip has to be tightened daily! If I don't I risk it falling out of my pocket at work doing the most menial of tasks such as getting in an out of my car.The battery barely lasts a full day of light use. I'll notice after using it a few times that the high beam dims itself into the low beam. I have to then charge it after each use, which becomes a task I don't have time for.The list if cons definitely outweigh the pros. But there are a couple of pros, not enough to give this product 4 stars. The aluminium body is durable and gives this flashlight a robust feeling of quality. The light is extremely bright and the strobe...well it's strobes like you'd expect. All in all I'm giving this 3 stars because I know this brand is quality and I know they had good intentions when making it but it's made in the states make it feel like it's made in the states.

I really wanted to like it - Brighter than heck, Made in the USA, Rechargeable

EDITED Review after 1 month of ownership. Here are the issues:1) You must put the flashlight on the charging cradle each day because the battery drains even if you don't use it!2) Charging cradle has a little notch for the clip, if you accidentally put the flashlight in without looking it goes to green and looks like it's charged when it isn't.3) When the flashlight isn't fully charged it acts crazy - turns off by itself, goes into flash mode and you can't turn it off.4) I wish it just turned on with the first push, but you have to push it twice to get it into constant-on mode. If you push it once it only goes on while you're holding the button down.Awesomely bright light. I compared four small tactical lights and this one was the brightest and in my opinion the best. The only drawback in my way of thinking is that the rechargeable batteries are not quite as convenient as being able to use AA batteries, of which I stock a great many. If a rechargeable battery runs low when you need the light, you are out of luck until you recharge it.Comparison of small tac lights:Maglite Mag-Tac, 2 stars - brightest of the 3, USA-made, rechargeable, most expensive of the three.Nitecore MT2A, 5 stars (2-AA batteries) - has the advantage that it uses commonly available batteriesSOG DE-03, 3 stars (1-AA battery) - hard to operate thumb switch, not very brightGearlight S1000, 2 stars (3-AAA batteries) - crazy design - you have to slide out the front of the light to zoom and get a bright light giving your opponent time to attack, but then with the lens extended you defeat the value of the crenelations on the bezel, but what did I expect from such a cheap light?

It's not Amazon's fault

I normally buy my items brand new, but when I saw what is typically an $80-$100 flashlight for only $47 used... I thought what the hell. The flashlight that I got in particular look like it had been somebody's everyday carry for the past couple of years. It did not look like an item that was simply bought and then returned within their refund policy time. I don't think Amazon may have checked carefully enough to see what was in the package and the condition it was in because the flashlight that I thought I was buying:1st of all was not the right flashlight2nd everything about it was dirty, where the rings and inside the flashlight itself was3rd I charged it it worked for about 15 minutes and then it shut off and would not recharge... which is a common problem with this particular flashlight and the tail cap assembly. I removed and tested the battery itself. It had a charge but the tail cap assembly just stopped working.Sadly, I ended up having to return it.I really like how the flashlight looks and feels, but I didn't buy it to just sit on a desk and look pretty, even though it was a used flashlight.I don't blame Amazon, I just think that whoever they got that flashlight return from they did not check to see that what they got back was exactly what it was supposed to be.My lessons learned, I will stick to buying my flashlight brand new... no matter what the price.I give it three stars because I really do like Maglite brand flashlights and I believe this is a great flashlight, but I won't know until I buy one brand new. I just had one of those very rare moments where I was not satisfied with my Amazon purchase.

Expensive? Worth it.

For the price, you'd expect quality, and you get it here. I love the ability to choose modes quickly. High, low, and strobe settings give the user the ability to adapt the light to a given situation. The ability to recharge makes it easy to keep the light at peak performance, even when operating in places where finding special batteries is difficult if you don't get this rechargeable version. Lastly, I love that this light is the same diameter top to bottom; most comparable flashlights are thicker at one end than the other. This fits perfectly in a small pocket I have on my work uniform. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase.
