Of the chemicals you use to test your pool water, this one is used by the half-ounce, not by the drop. So it makes sense to buy this big bottle -- if even just to refill the small bottles good for two tests. I need to monitor my CYA levels because the floater tablets add significant CYA as they dissolve. Will be using a couple of approaches to lower (and calculate) my CYA levels to get another year before having to fully drain and fill the 15,000 gallon. Particularly important because the price of water in my city is high.

Just so you know, this is only the reagent, this is not the whole test for cyanuric acid levels!We chose to use liquid chlorine and a chlorine stabilizer (cyanuric acid) for our pool this year and we previously purchased a Taylor chemicals kit. This cyanuric acid reagent ran out on the kit so we ordered this large one to make it through the summer. It's very accurate, my pool has not turned green using the results from this reagent to calculate my chlorine and I'm happy to say the price on this size was much cheaper than the smaller sizes.Cyanuric acid acts like a sunscreen for chlorine so it's important to check this so you know how much chlorine to add.

To have good pool chemistry a certain amount of Cyanuric acid levels are needed to be able to balance the pool. Trouble Free Pools recommends a level 40 to 50 with 30 to 60 being acceptable. I got my fresh filled pool up to 24 PPM then slowly took it to 40 PPM. I am measuring my CYA levels more often and the test kit that I use, the Taylor Tech K-2006C which uses 60 ml bottles i.e. 2 oz, includes 3 such bottles. You end up using 7 ml per test so you get enough to run 25 tests. This bottle let me refill the 8 2 ounce bottles and since I test often enough I don't have to worry about the product expiring on me. This one came with an expiration date 11 months in the future (wish it was more, but it's better than 4 or 6 months)High CYA levels above 60 are bad as more chlorine is needed to achieve the same results with lower CYA levels. This can become a viscous cycle and the only way around it is to buy an expensive tablet for each 10K gallons of pool water or at the very least a 50% drain or more of your pool water to start fresh again.Living in the desert we deal with massive amounts of water loss due to evaporation and are adding about 1000 gallons every 10 days (we have other ideas to limit the loss that we haven't implemented yet), and still others to reduce the amount of chlorine used short of going to an all salt system. We use the trichlor tablets when we can but know that they include a small amount of cyanuric acid that will raise CYA levels so with lots of testing stop using the tablets, and switch back to 10% Chlorine.

This is fantastic as you need a lot of this product to do the test. Nice large size i wish it was a smaller top.

Will last a long time

This product comes in handy for those wishing to frequently test their pool's cyanuric acid (CYA) level. Ideally you should not have to test it more than once or twice a year, and the little bottle of cyanuric acid reagent that comes in a typical HTH five-way test kit would be enough. However, I've noticed that my CYA level can fluctuate randomly and in a manner that simply does not make sense. CYA should only ever lower if you partially drain and refill the pool. Despite this fact my CYA levels have mysteriously dropped, overnight in at least one case, and left my shock treatment of chlorine useless. So now I check the CYA levels fairly frequently and always right before adding a large amount of chlorine. This product is super handy and I would highly recommend for anyone wanting to check CYA levels frequently. I pour a small amount into a cup and then use the little dropper bottle that comes in a HTH kit to draw up the reagent into that little bottle and then conduct the test by dropping the reagent into the test bottle that way.
