Review for Dragon Ball Z - Movie Collection 6: Fusion Reborn & Wrath of the Dragon
Fusion Reborn and Wrath of the Dragon are two of my all-time favorite Dragon Ball Z movies so despite already owning them, I decided to get this for the Blu-ray version and the awesome looking slipcover with Son Gokû Super Saiyan 3 doing the Ryū-ken attack.Packaging: 5/5Content: 3/5Video Quality: 3/5Audio Quality 3/5Enjoyment: 4/5The picture quality on this Blu-ray release was originally made by FUNimation in the United States of America, they called it the 'Double Features' and hence, it's called as such on the UK cover, too. The video quality in many times will look too dark and unacceptable since the crushed blacks have destroyed the details and original colors that were there. You say, how'd they allow this to happen? It was an automated remastering process much like their Dragon Ball Z Season DVD/Blu-ray sets so what we got here is a mixed-bag release. In case you're just going to watch it with the English dub (Original Japanese Music / FUNimation Music) then you'll be A-OK, but if you want to watch it with the original Japanese audio.. tough luck. The Japanese audio on this release is an absolute disaster, Movie 13 sounds extremely muffled and quiet and this even for a native Japanese would require subtitles since it's somewhat hard to hear them talk. As for the Japanese audio of Movie 12, it isn't much better either. This has always made me wonder why they didn't use the Japanese audio of Movie 13 they had from the Fullscreen DVD version, that sounds crystal clear and I'd dare say even better than the audio from the Dragon Box: The Movies as I have compared it.Overall, a mediocre release but if you're a Dragon Ball fan then you'll probably buy it either way. I didn't buy collections 1-5 since I'm just a sucker for Movies 12 and 13 (and already own every Dragon Ball movie prior to this release). Please note: This, whilst being released by Manga UK, it was actually authored by Madman Entertainment in Australia (just like the DB/Z/GT/Kai DVDs and Blu-rays).
