Pam Ayres poetry amusing and observational.

Bought as a present but read a few poems, some of which made me laugh out loud with her usual observational skills.

Good if you need some cheering up whilst being able to relate to the poem.

I purchased this book for a relative for Xmas but decided to be cheeky & read it before I wrap it which I don't usually do but in these awful times I fancied a bit of humour, it did the job & most of it you can totally relate to & it made it better when I could hear her voice/accent in my head.

Pam Ayres - a national treasure

I very fondly rememeber reading 'Oh I Wish I Looked After Me Teeth' with my Mum as a kid. I know that poem off by heart and upon stumbling across the old book (from the 70s I think!) I had another flick through and wondered whether Pam had written any more! Well, low and behold, she had! I bought this as a gift for my Mum, but the new poems are just as hilarious.Pam to me, is like David Attenborough is to wildlife, a national treasure of the comic world! What a dull place it would be without her witty humour, a must buy for a rainy day.

Beautiful Poems and Funny Sketches

This is a great book. I read it swiftly because it was just so readable. As well as poems there are a few sketches, my favourite being one called `The Leather Trousers' which has a beautiful use of the word appendage. Some of the sketches reminded me of Victoria Wood's work, they are about the kind of people we all know, the people we could find ourselves queuing behind in the supermarket. Ayres takes the ordinary and elevates it with her wonderful descriptions or quirky way of seeing it. There was also more serious work, for instance the touching and bleak poem `Count Me Out', about how elderly people may feel. I recommend following her on twitter - @PamAyres - you'll get all the excitement of seeing her tea cosies and her dog hiding in the jam-jar cupboard (surely worth venturing into the modern world for if you're not familiar with Twitter).I'm lending this book to my Mum now I've read it. It's enjoyable by multiple generations because it's clever and compassionate. I find Pam Ayres inspiring and even wrote my own wedding poem in a style similar to hers.

A good and worthwhile read where some parts will be remembered for a long time if not for life.

The book was received earlier than expected, well wrapped and though advertised as used and in excellent condition it appeared to be like new. All this for just £0.01! Plus reasonable postage.I am not a great reader of Pam Aryes but having seen the book in a garden centre thought it worth a read because it made me laugh, but was not worth (to me) the new price of nearly £8.00. Some of the poems and writings are poignant and even sad but movingly emotional. Others are really funny and unusually for me, made me laugh out loud. All are written from a real life perspective and most readers will relate to many of the situations referred to. A really good read throughout, and you will find yourself reading out your favourites to your friends and loved ones. I will happily pass the book on now I've read it with the knowledge that it will be appreciated.

Mother-In-Law loved it!

Content: M-I-L has read it cover to cover at least four times in the last three weeks, and delights in reading bits out to us. It produces excessive giggling. Clearly an excellent source of amusement if you don't take the word "poetry" too seriously - Pam is successfully trying to entertain rather than make life-changing statements!Condition: Although this one was being sold as used, the lovely smell of a new book was still evident and the pages were still tightly bound as if being turned for the first time. No marks, tears, creases or dog-ears anywhere. Perfect. Good as new for a bargain price - this is the way to buy books.
