ThinkFun Laser Chess Two Player Strategy Game and STEM Toy for Boys and Girls Age 8 and Up - MENSA Award Winner

Was actually a good bit more challenging and fun than I had anticipated.

I bought a Khet v 1 on sale in the mid 2000s and it looks like this game is a rebranded version of that game but minus the Egyptian theme and with a massive increase in build quality. Khet had qc issues here and there (especially the Tower of Kadesh!) but this one seems very solid and very high quality. Even the packaging is designed to ensure the longevity of the pieces. For anyone who digs abstract strategy like chess, othello, anything by the great Gigamic, etc. this one offers an easy-to-learn ruleset with pretty interesting complexity and excellent dynamic gameplay. Things can change so quickly! I can't recommend this highly enough if you enjoy unique games that have an elegant set-up but a ton of depth and strategies to uncover. I'd say it is somewhat "kid resistant" although you've still got mirrors and lasers. I don't know if I'd recommend it for children who haven't developed patience and good motor control of their hands. My 6 yo is absolutely obsessed with it, although she doesn't play full games to me, we just solve "chess puzzle" configurations with them so she can learn how lasers work. Next time I set it up I'm going to play next to a bowl of dry ice so I get the full sci-fi laser experience. It's gonna look like the old Crossfire commercial, LOL. Anyway ... BUY IT!!!!!

Love this game and always have. The pieces are much better then the old versions (khet and khet 2.0), they tend to reflect the lasers internally so they glow when hit much more, older versions just had a dot on them. Makes it much easier to play. The laser emitters are much more sturdy in this version just with a button on top as opposed to the old one where you pressed in the entire head (which always felt somewhat fragile). Only downsides are that this new version doesnt have the beam splitter option you could add on to the old version. That made the game much more strategic and challenging. For most people this isnt a problem as the game is already fun but if you want the extra challenge and another way to play then the old version still has a leg up. 4 stars because they havent completely replaced the old version to me. If they had all the features then it would be even more amazing.

Our 8-year-old nephew LOVED the game! He called enthusiastically thanking us for it.

Fun game. My students had to tweak the rules a little to get the game moving a faster. One space or one rotation didn't allow them to finish within one 42 minute period. They agreed on their own house movement rules and really enjoyed themselves.

This is a fun little game that involves simple strategic thinking and a basic knowledge of how lasers work.

My boys love this game! It is fairly easy to learn, my son is 8, and he wants to play it all the time! He used his Christmas money on it and is very pleased with it. I'm not sure how it would travel well because the pieces could fall off and be hard to retrieve while traveling.

Trying to figure out how to play this without instructions has proven to be difficult. The box looked like it had been rewrapped without the instructions included.

Está genia, empeze con el khet que tenía un diseño egipcio en sus figuras, pero en este rediseño está genial usar material transparente para aprovechar mejor el láser ya que se iluminan las figuras así es más fácil identificar cual le dió el láser, ojalá saquen la figura de split para más estrategias, recomendado no dude en adquirir esta versión, no sé si fue un buen precio pero me costó $640

Neat spin on the game. Takes a bit to set up and learn.

Can be played by grandson who is 8. Easy to set up as have diagrams of different games. You really have to work on strategies.
