Q: How do you replace the filter

To replace the filter you first have to remove the slatted cover on the side of the machine, push up the plastic tag on the bottom and pull outwards. If your model has an additional sponge filter wash it with warm soapy water and leave to dry. You then have to pull out the old filter and discard it (the older filters were two seperate ones, now replaced with one larger filter). The new filter has arrows printed on to show the correct way up, and 2 little ribbons to help you pull it out. The ribbons must be on the side facing you. You have to put it in at an angle top first and push it quite firmly. I found it quite fiddly, but you get used to it and its worth it - I think these air purifiers are amazing.

Q: This might be a silly question but do you have to remove the filters from the box they're in before fitting into the purifier?

No, fit the white box as is taking into account the arrows and markings on the box. Wool become apparent when you remove the existing filter.

Q: Does this need to be plugged in?

It is so easy, remove the old filter , then replace it. I would recommend Prem-I-Air machine be unplugged whilst you exchange it.

Q: How do you know when to replace a filter?

Hi quinninho. It's easy to open the filter compartment and check by eye if the filter is dirty/clogged up. I replace mine about every 6 months. There is a simple sponge pre-filter that I take out and hoover, then wash and dry before replacing. If this is done every 4 to 6 weeks, it helps to keep the hepa filter serviceable longer. Also, when I do this, I hoover the air intake underneath. This intake is to keep the motor from overheating and can gather dust.
