Looks good

bought this for a brackish water tank , it looks neat and if it works like it says for a year, it is well worth the money . Only concern is the plastic that protects covers the colour changing disc during shipping took a while to gently get it off as it was stuck on the disc and didn’t want to damage disc

Essential for Monitoring Ammonia Levels in My Aquarium

I bought the Seachem Ammonia Alert for Freshwater and Marine Fish to stick on the glass of my aquarium after one of my fish unfortunately died, and I couldn't find it. I wanted to keep a close eye on ammonia levels as the decomposition process could cause a spike. So far, it's working perfectly, and I'm able to monitor everything with ease. Highly recommend this product for any aquarium owner.

Don’t rely on these!

***updated review based on new knowledge of how this works, please read and ignore the review underneath.***This works by identifying dangerous ammonia not total ammonia which includes ammonium, typically the water test kits identify both ammonia and ammonium (which isn’t as dangerous to fish) and therefore will always show higher levels of Ammonia, so although water test kits are best and tell you where you are in the cycle, the alert is the one which will tell you when your fish are in danger without the need for water testing continuously. As soon as you see the alert start to rise you know there are dangerous levels of Ammonia present. This alert is best for an already cycled tank, I can say that my tank is now full of algae and happily cycled and I had no major issues. Just be aware that water test kits are a MUST and really i would only use those to cycle with. The Ammonia Alert does its job well, it won’t register total ammonia, only dangerous ammonia which is what’s important. I would recommend it for peace of mind when you get on with your cycled aquarium. Be patient and wait for the test kits to show 0 on both ammonia and Nitrite and then get this alert. Hope that helps.***original review***Just a word of caution to anyone doing a fish in cycle with bottled bacteria (colony). This alarm thing seems a great idea but in reality the reaction is very delayed and shows 0 at low level ammonia, when water tests show 0.25, this showed 0. I woke in the middle of the night (thank goodness I did) and one of my clowns were agitated. Checked water parameters and ammonia is at 0.50! The “alarm” barely shows 0.04. A big difference 😩 thank god I had Seachem Prime to hand otherwise it would have been a horrible ending. It’ll stay in my tank but it’s definitely too delayed to make a quick change to save your fish, rely on water tests only.

Nearly lost fish

Unfortunately this did not work, due to my fish looking ill I performed an ammonia drop test the result was high ! Nothing showed on the indicator. To check I moved this to a tank that I am cycling and that I know has 3ppm ammonia again this showed no indication of ammonia being present in the water.Waste of money and potentially loss of fish if you rely on it, it is an expensive product too.

So far, so good! Better than what I expected.

So far, much easier than using strips.I ordered 2, 1 for me and for a friend, after his newly introduced fish died instantaneously. We then ordered those great strips only to find out that they don't really check on Ammonia. The item itself will only last a year I think but the constant monitoring of ammonia was very appealing to me. Basically, it's right in your face and will change colour once it detects some levels.Just don't touch the circle bit as this is the sensing area, covered and protected when it arrives.Although I must say, it says that if you want to test it, you expose it with ammonia and the colour changes. I did not have that so I just really trusted the product. Maybe it needs some sort of a controlled substance just to check if they will react. So far, so good, happy fishes though!

It’s saved my fish more than once!

This is great, it alerts, it works. You just need to understand that this alerts you to free Ammonia, the dangerous part of Ammonia. It does not alert you to total Ammonia so if you have Ammonia in your tank but the free Ammonia is not at a level toxic to your fish, it won’t change colour. So when you do a test such as API master test and it indicates Ammonia, and you look at this and is displaying yellow, all good, that doesn’t mean this is not working or wrong but rather that there is not enough free Ammonia In Your tank to alert you. Your fish are safe. This has alerted me a couple of times and been absolutely right, my fish and I are thankful for it. Large water changes happen every time it speaks lol. Great peace of mind and very visible.

Useful daily ammonia monitor

Used to monitor ammonia in my saltwater reef tank, provides a simple to read-at a glance check.Shame Seachem don’t do any other tests for salt water tanks. Seems to match my API test results.
