I purchased this product for my 3 almost 4 year old daughter for Christmas.As far as the product itself goes, it is very easy for her to sort colors and match them to the pictures on the tiles. The quality of the pictures is great, and is easily read. The container and pieces are all made of wood, so it makes it more durable than plastic in my opinion. Some of the pieces are a bit small, so it's really up to a parent's own views whether or not to give them to a younger child. I personally would not go any younger than 3.The only downfall is that the lid that comes with the set isn't really stable. It looks great when first purchased as it's coated in plastic wrap, but the lid only sits on top of the container, nothing is secure. I had to purchase a plastic container to keep pieces in so they would not get lost.Overall, this is a great product to stimulate young minds, and can be used for making patterns even without the pictures provided.I would definitely recommend this product, and plan on purchasing extra pattern boards and blocks in the future.

The media could not be loaded. This board and patterns game has 10 puzzles to complete. The complexity of the puzzle's ranges from easy to difficult. All of the blocks come in different shapes and colors. Making it so fun and colorful.I will say, if your child has a bit of shaky hands, the blocks they have placed on the board already will move around as they are trying to place the new ones on the board, sort of messing it up for them. However, with a bit of supervision and help from guardians, it will be okay until those shaky hands and precision sharpens for the kid. Also, some blocks could potentially be a choking hazard. But as I said, supervision is key here.100% recommend. Everything is wooden so you know it's durable. The package and items came intact. Also, it shouldn't be too messy of a game. Kids can make the puzzles in its own tray.

Melissa & Doug have lots of hit toys, and the Pattern Blocks and Boards are no exception. I love that their wooden toys are built to last for years. I have several children and anything we have bought from M&D has survived them all and most look just about as good as new.My 3-year-old son plays with the pattern blocks and boards toys for hours. He has very few things that will hold his attention for this long. I am glad this is one of them! Placing the pieces on the board helps him with his motor skills. We also practice learning our shapes and colors with the different pieces. Even my 9 year old and 5 year old children have sat down and done some of the pattern boards.I think this is an excellent toy choice for preschoolers and am very glad that I bought it.The Cons: The wooden shapes are called "blocks," which I think is a little misleading. They are small and thin pieces of wood. So if you are looking for "building blocks," this is not what you want.I wish that this toy came with a better way to store the blocks and boards. Although they come in a wooden box, there is no lid. There are so many block pieces that if they get spilled (and it will happen, trust me) they go everywhere. I wish the storage box had a lid. We currently store the small pieces in a ziploc baggie.

Amazing toy for building focus, concentration, fine motor, and patience. I bought this for my four, soon to be five year old, and have noticed so many benefits. I’m shocked by the petty complaints about it. Of course the pieces slide around. It’s intended to be that way so that the child takes her time placing the pieces together as opposed to just slapping them down sloppily (hence the patience building aspect). It takes more time to put the puzzle together, thus more concentration is required. I like to have my son build the puzzle on the picture mat, then really challenge him by taking the mat away and having him replicate the same thing on the bare table. This toy promotes an incredible amount of brain building possibilities. I also talk to him about concepts like “on top of”, “next to”, “underneath”, etc., terms that are integral to following directions and building executive function. I also have him sort the pieces accordingly to color (sorting is a great precursor to math readiness) and also talk about the shapes. Also, I am not bothered by the lack of a cover. I just throw everything in a gallon sized ziploc and save lots of space that way. I found the pieces and boards to be of high quality, with no smell or flaws whatsoever.

Being a Montessori teacher, this is a wonderful activity for toddlers. As others have noted, there is no lid which makes it difficult to keep the pieces safely stored. The boards are slippery which makes it difficult to keep shapes lined up.The puzzle box was missing the orange triangles. It was difficult getting through to customer service
