Q: Why is there a rattling sound when this works which is very annoying

There should not be a rattling sound with this filter, unless it has pulled something into the impeller area that needs removing. We would recommend unplugging it and taking it apart to check the impeller for any signs of damage or clogging. Q: How do you charge with diatom earth ? Tried for over an hour, would not charge.

I put the DE in a jar of warm water shake it up to mix it then place the filter in a large bucket that you can fill enough to submerse the filter and turn it on. Pour the de solution in and wait until the water is clear then you can use the filter in your tank. Works awesome. Make sure you have the foam ring under the filter inside the canister.

Q: what micron size does it filter? bacteria, algae, etc are too small for most filters to remove.

I put it in my algae bloomed tank and it fixed the problem
