This is actually an excellently made double rites of passage film with a powerful emotional drive and undercurrent.Primarily a family relationship drama between mother and daughter in the midst of training for the 1st manned space mission to Mars.Though the title gives a sense of such an adventurous film, it really focused on the down to earth human story. The effect on the main character and her young daughter find that both need to cope with the pressures of the trining program, that increasingly becomes a wedge between them.The very normal and subtle glimpses into a child's view and her life events is juxtaposed with the far reaching monumental journey ahead for her mother. Sensitively handled and managed by the director, the deep divide and heartwrenching wound left upon both is eased but the realisation of all the hard work put in to the job and being a mother.The training program is superbly revealed with details and statistics sweaty weaved in and out of personal pressures, that finally culminate into the launch.In their own way, both were on a long journey but with different affects upon both.Very well done.

This is a gentle sci-fi film dealing mainly with the relationship of a young girl to her mother who is going away on a long space mission. There is also the role her father plays as the divorced husband of the lady astronaut and how he makes his best efforts to keep things going.There are no screaming fits nor blackmail threats, "IF you go into space I won't speak to you again!" just the natural stresses and strains of a woman committing to becoming an astronaut. It starts a little slowly but soon gathers pace once all the players have been identified and from there it develops into a very comfortable couple of hours in front of the screen. It is the sort of film I will watch twice and perhaps three times each year.Most recommendable.

What a beautiful film, Eva Green is flawless in most films to be honest. In this particular film she torn between her dreams of being an astronaut and being a mother separated from the child’s father. Matt Dillion comes across as being a bit cold to start with and judgemental but he ends with having the best respect for his female counterpart.

1 of my favourite films from the last time Cineworld was open. A very good drama with an excellent cast, not just your average sci-fi, I felt quite emotional at the end.

First off, this is not an action film. There are not even any scenes in space. The film is about the female astronaut’s relationship with her daughter and how she copes with the training. Secondly, a lot of the dialogue is in French, with English subtitles. I enjoyed the film just for the performance of the actors.

The lovely 'Eva Green' is excellent but this is such a dreary film with a nothing ending .Not one to ever watch again .
