An Important Business Read

The media could not be loaded. We were sent a review copy of The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace for the purpose of writing this review. The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace is an eye-opening book. The authors, Gary Chapman and Paul White, reveal a method of communicating with workers in the workplace. Their methods help bosses understand the best way to show their employees how valuable they are.The authors provide tools for how to assess what motivates individual employees in the workplace. They reveal that there is no one-size-fits-all way to express gratitude to employees. It is explained in the book how some people don’t appreciate some forms of gratitude, but hope for others. The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace is well-written and well researched. It is easy to read and understand and does not require a background in psychology or management to be useful and understood. The good thing about The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace is that not once do they recommend putting up posters, wearing pins, or joining hands and singing Kumbaya, like so many other methods do. Those methods of encouragement never work and often do more harm than good.We think that any organization that seeks to get the best an employee has to offer should implement the use of The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace. We give it all 5 stars. We only wish this book had been around back when we had to deal with various employers.

Completely transformed me as a manager

After reading the original 5 languages, I had to buy the workplace version. The comparisons are well written, it was an easy and fast read, and it gave me so much insight into connecting with my staff and bringing a real sense of morale to the team. I have all of my assistant managers read this book and it has completely changed the culture of our store. We are up in sales during covid over 20% and number one in the company starting out at the location as a troublesome and low-sales store that they were threatening to close the doors on. This book has boosted my career more than any other book I’ve read about self improvement in the workplace!

This book was easy to read and very informative.

The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace, explains in detail the key reasons why persons in the workforce may feel under-valued and consider getting another job. Wanting an increase in income was not the number one reason for many staff members dissatisfaction but there are other factors which may have been overlooked by managers or supervisors. It clearly highlights the different ways companies and managers reward their staff without being able translate the feeling of appreciation to their staff. The book lists the benefits to be derived by the companies when they clearly understand and implement these tools. Some of the benefits are lower staff turnover, fewer funds required for advertising new vacancies and time required for new staff to learn their functions to become an effective team member.I would recommend this book to any business owner and persons in positions such as supervisors and managers. I think this book will contribute to the improved positive work environment and increase levels of productivity.

Must read for professionals

This is a must read for professionals, specifically supervisors. By understanding how employees want recognition allows an employer/supervisor to maximize resources and appropriately recognize their staff. Great information well worth the cost.

Real-Life Results Backed By Solid Research

As an entry-level employee, I greatly benefited from the concepts and applications in The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace. I have known about Dr. Chapman's 5 Love Languages book for a number of years and was interested in exploring how those Languages could translate into different aspects of my life.As I read through the book, I not only read about how the various Languages are appropriately "spoken" in the workplace, but also how the authors applied their concepts in a real-world context. I appreciated the authors conducting and explaining their research in various workplaces around the country because it gave added credibility to their already excellent concepts. Reading how occupations as dissimilar as machinists, medical professionals, lawyers, and corporate employees can use these principles helped convince me that Languages of Appreciation know no vocational bounds.I bought the Kindle version of the book and I thoroughly enjoyed the resources and format throughout the text. It was easy to read and navigate with links to online content for further exploration. There were application steps at the end of each chapter and also included a workbook at no additional charge.

Good but a bit repetitive

This was a handy book that provided some nice tips and pointers. While reading, the repetition became a bit onerous making me start skimming parts while trying to repress "no duh" mental notes. I think the valuable messages and lessons could have been easily consolidated in half this space with a similar - or even increased - effectiveness. On the very positive side, though, the authors provided tips for a management newbie to identify subordinate penchants - or even peer penchants. I would recommend this book for leaders who grew up in the technical generations rather than prior - If you're a Gen-X person, this is what you probably learned in high school. If this is a Millenial trying to work with very different people and build generational and social bridges, this would be a great reference to skim through.

Again, one more Dr. Chapman's book review

Many of us forget to appreciate our colleagues and office mates throughout the busy working days, especially when we work under stress. (Who doesn't have stress in tghe work place!!) Since we spend more time with our colleagues at work than we do at home, showing our appreciation to them for what they do every day is crucial. Also, there are several ways to show it, at different places, under diferent circumstances.I think we should all read this wonderful book and share what we understand with all our friends and family members.Thank you Dr. Chapman.

This was an excellent book with very specific details of understanding and implementing appreciation in the work place based on the way you best receive appreciation. Everyone responds to appreciation in different ways and this really was eye opening for me. I'm using it to see how I can respond to coworkers differently. Must read for managers and anyone who wants to impact morale in the workplace.
